EBN meet the Mayor

Two years ago, Eastleigh-based solicitors Alison Colley and Dan Cottrell practising out of the Leigh Road offices of Knight Polson, contacted a number of Eastleigh-based businesses with whom they had professional dealings suggesting the formation of a business networking group.

The idea was to recommend the services of each business to each others’ contacts. It was decided to invite only one local business from each sector, i.e., one accountant, one Bank, one insurance broker, one florist etc to join Eastleigh Business Networking Group which has rapidly grown to total 17 members. The Group have launched a number of cost-effective marketing initiatives including the production of colour literature, production of a website and manning their own stand at Business South at The Rose Bowl. All promotional materials proclaim the Group’s aim and guiding principle “Happy To Recommend”.

Initially, the Group met once a month at lunchtime at The Point in Leigh Road but as numbers grew so larger meeting facilities were sought. The Group moved to The Golf Academy in Chestnut Avenue, then to Eastleigh Football Club and Fleming Park before being invited by Peter Wall, Eastleigh’s Head of Economic Development to make use of the Committee Room at the Council’s offices back in September 2011.

Recently The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Eastleigh, Councillor Wayne Irish expressed his support for the Networking Group and kindly posed for a photograph with the current members in his parlour at the Council Offices. The Mayor then join the Group for lunch at their networking meeting when Peter Wall addressed the members and invited questions about implementation of the Local Plan.
